The Brooklyn Mirage: SMPTE 2110 Venue
In 2022, I came on as Director, creative, and producer for the rebuild of Brooklyn Mirage's main stage at Avant Gardner, working with Pointshader and Landon Looper under the banner of GGGlue Interactive. What we were doing was technically unprecedented in outdoor live entertainment in the United States: migrating the entire production infrastructure of a 200-foot outdoor LED wall to SMPTE ST 2110, the broadcast standard that treats video as data flowing across a network rather than a signal traveling through cables. The wall became the largest immersive entertainment experience in the United States.
But the technical rebuild was only half the job. The other half was creative direction: making sure that every performance on that wall was built specifically to exploit what it could do. A 200-foot outdoor LED wall that's been rebuilt to broadcast-grade networked infrastructure is only transformative if the content on it is designed to match. My role was to work directly with artists and visual teams to ensure that the creative vision for each show was conceived for the wall's full capacity — real-time rendering, live-responsive visuals, environments that didn't feel like video playing on a screen but like worlds the audience was standing inside.
The artists who performed there across the seasons tell you everything about the scale of what this stage became: Tiësto, Deadmau5, Charlotte de Witte, Disclosure, Rufus du Sol, Flume, David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Thundercat, Black Coffee, Toro y Moi, Turnstile, The Chainsmokers, ZHU, John Summit, Keinemusik, Marc Rebillet and dozens more. Night after night, tens of thousands of people stood in front of that wall and felt like they were somewhere else entirely. That's what happens when you build the infrastructure right and then build the creative vision to match it.
